KiloSwap
KiloSwap is a utility metasearch engine, simplifying utility comparison, sign up and billing for the consumer.
Simply put, there are multiple retailers selling utilities to consumers, but the lack of information and difficulty in switching utilities prevents consumers from optimizing their options. KiloSwap proposes creating a simple interface for consumers to compare utilities and switch in a quick and painless manner.
Background
The utility providers in New York State have been running as a oligopoly for many years; a few strong companies control the generation, transmission and retail of energy. In 2008 the state passed several bills preventing a single company from controlling every aspect of energy delivery.
This has resulted in more retailers and cheaper prices for consumers. Currently 80% of consumers could save money by switching their utility provider.
